Dear Grade 4 Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to Bourne Middle School!
Even though it is only March BMS is already planning for your student to become part of our school for the 2018-2019 school year. The staff at BMS would like to take this opportunity to invite you and your student to participate in the events outlined below as part of the transition process to middle school.
Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - during the school day
The BMS band and chorus teachers will be visiting each elementary school to do a short demonstration of the music choices available in grade 5. Students will be bringing home a course selection sheet for music that same day that needs to be completed and returned to school by May 1st so that BMS can begin the scheduling process for the upcoming school year.
Thursday April 26, 2018 - 6:00 pm in the Bourne Middle School Media Center
BMS Parent Orientation/Program of Studies Night will be an introduction to the middle school structure, programs, and expectations. Come and hear all about the middle school.
Tuesday May 10, 2018 - 6:00 pm
Please join BMS for an evening celebrating our accomplishments from the past school year. Casually stroll through the hallways and see work samples and projects from each grade. Have a bite at our world language cafes and enjoy some music from our band and chorus. This is a great way to get a sneak peak into grade 5 and Bourne Middle School.
Monday, June 4, 2018 and Tuesday, June 5, 2018 – during the school day
The BMS principal will visit each grade 4 classroom individually to do a short presentation on what to expect at BMS and answer individual questions from students. The presentation highlights the structure of the student schedule at BMS, the true meaning behind the initials B.M.S. and the “top 3 things that students love about coming to BMS”.
Week of June 4, 2018 - 12:15 pm
Grade 4 students from both Peebles and Bournedale will come together at BMS to enjoy lunch in our cafeteria, meet some “V.I.P’s at BMS”, get a tour of the building, and participate in a science lesson led by grade 7 students (future grade 8 students).
Thursday, August 23, 2018 – 9:00 am (tentatively)
All incoming grade 5 students are invited to attend a student orientation of BMS. Students will receive an invitation to this event along with their schedule and team assignment as part of the “start of the school year” packet that will be mailed to all students on or around August 15, 2018. Students will be asked to wear a specific color shirt based upon team assignment and will participate in 4 activities (following a rotating schedule) designed to acclimate them to the middle school and prepare them for the first day of school the next week.
Bourne Middle School is looking forward to meeting all incoming grade 5 students and families and working together to ensure a successful transition to the middle school. We recognize that this transition can be one that is emotion filled and comes with many questions. Students and families are welcome at BMS at anytime and we are happy to work with students and families to support individual transition needs. Please feel free to contact the staff at BMS at 508-759-0690.
