School to Career Internship Program

Partnering Education With Practice

What is an internship?

An internship is a structured and supervised hands-on learning experience providing local students with practical career field experience. Interns are motivated students who desire to learn new skills while expanding their knowledge of a chosen career. The intern frequently reflects on what he or she is learning throughout the internship.

Internships are beneficial to employers, students, schools and communities as a whole, therefore helping Cape Cod retain an educated and skilled workforce. An internship is jointly evaluated by school and worksite staff and concludes in a final project or presentation.

A completed application must be submitted during the preceding semester in order to participate and enroll in the School-to-Career course. Forms are available in the Guidance Office.  Students must make an appointment with the Internship Coordinator to review their completed application by the deadline and make any necessary revisions. A student’s commitment, academic progress, attendance, and discipline records will be considered. Second semester Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors may apply. Duration is typically a semester; however, extensions are possible.

How to Begin

If you are seeking an internship, you will work with your Guidance Counselor to guide you towards the best career exposure for you.  You must begin by submitting a completed application with attached resume and personal essay in time for course registration the semester prior to your placement. You will then outline your planned internship based upon the criteria identified in the application. Once you complete the application, you will schedule a meeting with the Internship Coordinator and your Guidance Counselor.

Upon acceptance of your internship application, your Guidance Counselor will enroll you in the School to Career course which will appear on your schedule. The student will work with the Internship Coordinator to find a placement with an employer that matches his or her career goals. It is your responsibility to check in frequently throughout the placement process to obtain updates on your potential upcoming internship placement.
