TEACHER OF THE ARTS

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

 

Reports to:      Building Principal or his/her designee

 

Job Goal:        To provide to students in The Arts an understanding of the nature of the creative process, the characteristics of visual art, music, dance, and theatre and their importance in shaping and reflecting historical and cultural heritage, utilizing criteria set forth in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.

 

 

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

 

1.      Plans a program of study that is based on criteria set forth toward in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for The Arts.

 

2.      Develop classroom lessons that will prepare students to demonstrate respect for artistic work and performance.

 

3.      Provide instruction that will lead to students understanding that all art forms have multiple facets and involve multiple skills.

 

4.      Contribute to the community life of the school through The Arts and related activities.

 

5.      Instruct students on how to discuss and analyze responses to varying interpretations of the same work, or works of a similar theme.

 

6.      Provide opportunities for students to discuss the ways in which personal responses to an art work evolve through repeated listening and viewing.

 

7.      Provide opportunities for students to bring as idea into a finished form and compare the finished work with the original concept.

 

8.      Create learning environments where students examine and analyze artistic traditions of diverse cultural groups.

 

9.      Provide opportunities for students to learn how artists can influence society and be influenced by society.

 

10.  Provide opportunities for students to communicate through the participation in The Arts.

 

11.  Performs such other related tasks and assumes such other related responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal or his/her designee as appropriate.

 

Qualifications:

 

·         A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

·         Maintains a valid Massachusetts teacher certificate appropriate for the assignment of instruction in The Arts.

·         A proven ability to work in a polite and friendly manner.

·         Such alternatives to the above as the School Department may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

 

Terms of Employment: As determined by the contract of the Bourne Educator’s

Association and the Bourne School Committee.

 

 

Evaluation: As determined by the contract of the Bourne Educator’s

Association and the Bourne School Committee.

 

 

Salary:  As determined by the contract of the Bourne Educator’s

Association and the Bourne School Committee.
